What is it?

Body Armor is protective clothing used by police officers and soldiers to protect themselves from gunfire, shrapnel, melee weapons, and other dangers they face during their jobs.

How are Types of Body Armor Different?

The National Institute of Justice has designated six different types of body armor. The higher the number, the more protection the body armor provides. However, the more protection the vest provides, the more the body armor weighs. This means that some of the most protective body armor vests are also the most cumbersome. As a result, soldiers and regular police officers wear different types of body armor due to the different caliber of dangers they face.

What is Body Armor Made Of?

It depends on the type of body armor. Body armor that provides less protection but is easier to wear is usually made from Kevlar, while heavier but more protective body armor has ceramic or metal plates.
